How We Make Money
Unblock Australia (unblockvpn.au) is an independently operated website. We earn money through affiliate partnerships with VPN providers. When you click a link on our site and purchase a VPN subscription, we may receive a commission from the VPN provider at no additional cost to you.
This is how we keep the site running, pay for hosting, and fund the time spent researching, testing, and writing our guides. We do not charge readers anything. We do not run display advertising. Affiliate commissions are our sole revenue source.
Which VPN Providers We Partner With
We currently have affiliate relationships with the following VPN providers:
- NordVPN
- Surfshark
- ExpressVPN
- Proton VPN
Links to these providers on our site are affiliate links. They are marked with rel="sponsored" in the HTML.
We Only Recommend Services We've Tested
Every VPN recommended on this site has been personally tested by us from Australian internet connections. We test for speed, DNS leaks, privacy policy accuracy, app quality, and customer support responsiveness.
We do not recommend a VPN simply because it offers a high commission. If a VPN has a generous affiliate programme but performs poorly in our testing, it does not make our recommended list. Conversely, if a VPN performs well but has no affiliate programme, we will still recommend it and link to it without earning anything.
Proton VPN's free tier is a good example — we recommend it as the only safe free VPN despite earning nothing from free tier signups.
Compensation Does Not Influence Rankings
Our rankings and ratings are based on our testing methodology, not on commission rates. The VPN that pays us the most is not automatically ranked first. Our rankings are determined by:
- Speed test results from Australian servers
- Privacy policy analysis and no-logs audit verification
- Security features (kill switch, DNS leak protection, encryption standard)
- App quality and ease of use
- Price and value for money
- Customer support quality
- Jurisdiction and legal framework
If our top-ranked VPN changed its practices in a way that compromised user privacy, we would change our ranking regardless of the financial impact on our revenue.
Editorial Independence
No VPN provider has editorial control over our content. VPN providers do not review our articles before publication. They do not approve or reject our reviews. They cannot request changes to our ratings or rankings.
Our content is written to help Australians make informed privacy decisions. If that means pointing out flaws in a product we earn commissions from, we will do so. If it means recommending a competitor that pays us less, we will do so.
The trust of our readers is worth more than any individual affiliate commission.
Not Financial or Legal Advice
The content on this site is for informational purposes only. We are not lawyers, and nothing on this site constitutes legal advice. While we discuss the legality of VPN use in Australia, we recommend consulting a qualified legal professional if you have specific legal concerns.
Product recommendations are based on our testing and experience. Your needs may differ. We encourage you to research any product before purchasing.
