Privacy Policy

Who We Are

Unblock Australia (unblockvpn.au) is an independent informational website that provides VPN reviews, privacy guides, and digital rights resources for Australians. We are not affiliated with any government agency, ISP, or regulatory body.

We take privacy seriously — it's literally what this site is about. This policy explains exactly what data we collect, why, and what we do with it. We've written it in plain English, not legalese.

What Data We Collect

Email addresses (newsletter only)

If you voluntarily subscribe to our email newsletter, we collect your email address. That's it. We do not collect your name, phone number, location, or any other personal information through the newsletter signup.

Your email address is stored securely and used solely to send you privacy-related updates. You can unsubscribe at any time via the link in every email. When you unsubscribe, your email is permanently deleted from our mailing list.

Basic analytics

We use privacy-respecting analytics to understand how people use this site. This helps us know which articles are useful and where to focus our efforts. Our analytics collect:

  • Page views (which pages are visited)
  • Referral source (how you found us — e.g., search engine, social media)
  • Country-level location (we do not track city or precise location)
  • Device type (desktop, mobile, tablet)
  • Browser type

We do not use Google Analytics. We do not track individual users across sessions. We do not create user profiles. We do not use fingerprinting.

Affiliate Links

This site contains affiliate links to VPN providers. When you click an affiliate link and purchase a VPN subscription, we may earn a commission at no additional cost to you. This is how we fund the site.

Affiliate links are tagged with tracking parameters so the VPN provider knows the referral came from us. This means the VPN provider knows you clicked a link on our site. We do not receive any information about you from the VPN provider — we only receive confirmation that a sale occurred and the commission amount.

Our affiliate relationships are fully disclosed on our Disclaimer page.

Cookies

We use minimal cookies:

  • Essential cookies: Required for basic site functionality (e.g., remembering if you've dismissed a popup). These do not track you.
  • Analytics cookies: Used by our privacy-respecting analytics to distinguish unique page views. These are first-party cookies only and are not shared with third parties.
  • Affiliate cookies: When you click an affiliate link, the VPN provider may set a cookie on their own domain to track the referral. This happens on their site, not ours, and is governed by their privacy policy.

We do not use third-party tracking cookies. We do not use advertising cookies. We do not use social media tracking pixels.

Third-Party Services

We use a limited number of third-party services:

  • Hosting provider: Our site is hosted on Vercel. Vercel processes server logs that include IP addresses as part of standard web hosting. See Vercel's privacy policy.
  • Email service: Our newsletter is managed through a third-party email service provider. Your email address is shared with this provider solely for the purpose of delivering the newsletter.
  • Affiliate networks: We participate in affiliate programmes with VPN providers including NordVPN, Surfshark, ExpressVPN, and Proton VPN. Clicking affiliate links directs you to their sites, which are governed by their own privacy policies.

What We Do NOT Do

  • We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal data to anyone
  • We do not build advertising profiles
  • We do not use Google Analytics or Facebook Pixel
  • We do not collect or store payment information
  • We do not track your browsing activity across other websites
