The 2018 breach: what happened and where things stand

NordVPN had a server compromised in Finland in March 2018. They disclosed it in October 2019 — about 18 months after the fact, which is not great.

What actually happened: a server management system used by their Finnish data centre provider had a vulnerability that an attacker exploited. No user credentials were exposed (no logs to steal), no active sessions were compromised, and the attacker had no persistent access.
